Tax Season Resources
Red Yellow Green Tax Deadlines
We are here to help remove the stress of tax season! We need time to prepare your tax return, and you want time to review it. We now have three, color-coded date sets for each tax return and each deadline - RED, YELLOW and GREEN.
If we receive everything needed to complete the return (signed engagement letter, completed questionnaire and all relevant documents) by the GREEN deadline, the returns will be completed allowing ample client review time prior to the returns' due date.
If we receive any of the required documents on or after a YELLOW deadline, the return may be completed shortly-before, shortly-after or on the IRS tax return due date. If the return is completed shortly before, or on the IRS tax return due date, there will not be time to review the return prior to filing.
We recommend filing a pro-active extension for all returns meeting the YELLOW deadline removing the pressure for the client to review the return and allowing sufficient time to properly file the extension with the government. However, as soon as the client has time to review and sign the return, the return will be filed.
If we receive any of the required documents on or after a RED deadline, the return will not be completed prior to the due date, and extensions will be necessary. IMPORTANT: understand that we must meet March, April and May income tax deadlines. Therefore, all extended tax returns with original due dates in March and April will be prepared after our May deadlines have passed (Review our Estimated Payments information if you must extend your tax return).
GREEN - good to go, plenty of time! YELLOW - caution, may not be ready until the last minute - no guarantees, so pro-actively extend! And RED - stop! it will NOT be ready and MUST be extended!
