What Coronavirus means for our clients - FAQ's

We are adding new FAQ's every day or two as conditions change. Check back here often to learn more about how we are helping our clients during this time and also how our filing season is affected.

Is our Firm continuing to practice safe distancing? What office and employee precautions is our firm undertaking? How do clients pick-up returns or drop-off information in the office? How else can clients receive their tax return? Is Knoble Ingle CPAs still working and preparing tax returns? How is our Firm handling due dates? With the new July 15 deadline do clients need to extend returns? Will NC and SC also remove penalties for late payments? Can our Clients have a return prepared without visiting our office? Can our Clients use our Drive-Through service? What does our Firm rely on to prepare income tax returns?

Our firm is practicing safe distancing for the foreseeable future

While the South Carolina Governor has removed the stay at home order, we continue to practice safe distancing because we believe it is in the best interest of our employees and our clients to keep them safe.  Until we believe there is medically approved method for containing COVID-19 other than safe distancing, we will continue that practice.  However, we remain committed to serving our clients and continue to provide online and virtual access to completing client work, as well as limited physical space in our office.

Office and Employee Precautions

We have taken precautions as a result of the continued news about the Coronavirus, or COVID-19.  We continue to have hand sanitizers and tissues in our lobby and conference room.  We also clean these surfaces daily with appropriate wipes.  We have asked our employees to wash hands frequently and be aware of how germs are spread.  We also practice social distancing within our office.

We ask if you visit our office, that you also exercise common sense and responsibility regarding the spread of germs.  If you have been sick, we ask you use one of our alternative delivery methods.

Office Pick-Up Station

If our clients need to drop-off information or pick-up tax returns, we have setup a station in our lobby for that purpose.  It allows us to keep social distancing in our lobby.  If you prefer not to come by, consider one of our alternative delivery methods discussed here.

Alternative delivery methods for our Clients

Even with our pick-up and drop-off station in our lobby, clients can use alternative methods.  Our clients can transact their return electronically throgh a portal using their email address and a computer with internet, or they can use our Drive-Through service.  See the FAQ's here for more.

Knoble Ingle CPAs remains open and working hard

We are open and working normal business hours.  We are also working late hours and weekends at home, like any other tax season.  We are putting the safety of our employees and our clients first, and we are working hard to ensure all our clients file income tax returns, even if the return must be extended past 4/15/20.

Due Dates and Precautionary Extensions

LEGISLATIVE NOTE: Congress continues to work through methods to assist taxpayers and is considering legislation that will extend time to file and pay income taxes.  We are staying up to date with this legislation, but may continue to extend tax returns as the process is electronic and easy to accomplish.

We are recommending extensions be filed for most tax returns.  This is proactive to prevent late filing penalties should any later connectivity issues arise preventing extensions from being sent electronically.

If you have any questions, please contact us.  We look forward to helping our clients get through this tax season with as little interruption as possible.  Also, see our 2019 Federal Tax Relief FAQs and FAQs for North Carolina and South Carolina.

New Legislation and Extensions

The new legislation will assist taxpayers that owe the federal government by allowing them to pay their full tax bill by July 15th and not be subject to late payment penalties from April 15 through July 15.  However, if the return is not filed by then and taxes are not paid, then penalties will apply.  Since clients may or may not have all the information they need by that date, we are still recommending extensions be filed by April 15, 2020.  See our 2019 Federal Tax Relief FAQs.

NC and SC Relief Packages

North Carolina and South Carolina have issued relief notices.  However, not all provisions are the same between states, and not all provisions are exacty the same as the Federal notice.  We recommend our clients see the North Carolina FAQ and the South Carolina FAQ to see what information applies to their specific situation.

Electronic Tax Return Process - No Office Visit Needed

Our clients have means to communicate electronically with us to have their tax returns prepared and filed. There is no need to visit our office to complete a tax return for fiing.  Our clients only need an internet connection and an email address.  From organizer, to delivery to paying bills, all can be done throught our private portal process.

If you are a client and prefer not to visit our office, see our home page for information and read more about our portals.

Drive-Through Income Tax Service - No Office Visit Needed

In addition, we are providing a Drive-Through service this year.  If our clients prefer to hand us their information through their car window, and receive their completed tax return through their car window, they only need ask for our Drive-Through service! This minimizes contact and allows our clients to comply with the tax law without having to mail or fax us information.

If you are a client and prefer not to visit inside our office, see our home page for information and read more about our portals.

Internet Reliance for Work

We are concerned that continued school and event closings, coupled with work at home strategies, will stress the infrastructure of the internet. This could negatively impact our ability to get work done through the cloud, which is based on a reasonable connection through the internet.

In addition, we continue to work with our Federal and State legisltators in efforts to allow for late tax payments during this filing season with no penalty. We will keep you advised of the results and how that may allow for a later tax preparation with no penalty.
